Las Perlas del Mar is a non-profit organization founded in 2008 by Alex Flores who has held this newscast media for the last three years. During 2010, a new team decided to enjoy the organization as a strong believers on the mission of Las Perlas and the important messages and news that every week are put on the table of families, women and men.

Today, we want to ask you to support us with a suggested donation of ten dollars in order to continue running our broadcast program. Las Perlas del Mar does not accept money from corporations or governments; your generous donations sustained our programs, our vision and commitment is with our community.

Why is it important?

Las Perlas Del Mar has successfully positioned itself in the Canadian community with a focus in the Hispanic community as well as in the local media engaging and addressing problems that affect people's life locally, regionally and internationally. Every week our team put their best to continue doing activism through the social media, our Internet platform and although, our weekly videos of “Perleando” (comments about the most highlighted news that concern our communities and the coverage of different events in the city). Unfortunately, Las Perlas Del Mar does not have enough financial resources to cover provincial events that are highly important for our audiences and that is one of the reasons to knock at your door and ask our community and the one we also serve, to helps us with $10.00 CAD in order to keep alive this none profit organization that has proven the important role that the alternative media have in a city such as Toronto. Mainstream media both nationally and internationally lacks a concise gender analysis and representation of children and women’s issues and perspectives. Las Perlas de Mar is an alternative media outlet that was created two years ago in order to fill this gap and report on current events with a gender lens that creates an environment where the news will reflect and give voice to women’s communities and realities.

Las Perlas del Mar is a bilingual (Spanish and English) internet newscast with a gender perspective that covers and broadcasts local news, weekly comments on events that concern our communities as well as events run by community based non-for-profit organizations. We currently have an average of 5,000 hits per week, within Canada, the United States, and Latin America.

Mainstream media rarely covers news and events run by local organizations that are on the ground working with and for diverse communities in the city of Toronto. Las Perlas del Mar is committed to working in partnership and collaborate with individuals, as well as community groups and organizations. We want to be part of your community events, of the issues that matter to you and the individuals you work with. Las Perlas del Mar has worked in partnership and collaboration with the following organizations: WACT, TRCC, METRAC, Costi, Mujer, Child Development Institute, Barbara Schlifer Clinic, Council of Canadians, Mujeres al Frente, NFB, Mayworks, Counterpoint, FCJ Refugee Centre, InsideOut, Alucine, Female Eye, amongst others.
Alternative media needs to be supported by individuals and organizations in order to be able to sustain the promotion and coverage it provides. For the past two years, Las Perlas del Mar has worked on a voluntary basis. In order to be able to continue our work, we need your support! We want you to become part of our voice by becoming a member and financially contributing to our organization. With your support we can provide a gender lens that through an intersectional and anti-oppression analysis creates an environment where our viewers can hear your voices.

Las Perlas del Mar offers your organization three different annual membership options that will contribute to our sustainability and allow us to continue to offer you and our communities coverage and news. In order to thank-you for your support, each membership grants you certain benefits.

We are committed to bringing attention to a broad range of local and global news and events related to, but not limited to: human rights, social justice, violence, the environment, health, as well as feminist art and culture We want to bring news and comments with a gender focus. We believe that with your collaboration we can continue to create multi-media projects and initiatives that are produced by women.
